Journal # 6: Are Wii the Children of the Revolution?

Ever since gaming started by Nintendo gaming companies have been looking for more ways to make their system much better than the other. They make the graphics better or make the the controls better. All of these companies focused on those aspects of the consoles they make thinking that this would put them on top. For a period of time it did put them on top until gamers and consumers start to find it boring because it does not put any fun to it anymore. They all know someone will end up having the next best graphics or best power for their console making it only fun for people who actually know about these things. The fun of playing games in the beginning of all gaming is starting to fade away until Nintendo's latest console release the Wii. The Wii has put the fun back to gaming making it fun for everyone even the clueless people. It suddenly the console everyone wants to try or have in their homes. Its competitors like the PS3 and Xbox 360 were just made for people who knew about gaming and know how to use these consoles. The Wii was made for everyone. It lets everyone have fun and it even gives you a little bit of a work out with some of the games Nintendo has put out for the Wii. For some of its games you don't even have to know how to use the controls. Some games only asks you to swing the controller like in tennis. The confusing controls for the people who do not play games a lot for PS3 or the Xbox 306 is taken away in the Wii. There are still some buttons you can use but most of its games are focused on using body movement to control the characters in the game making it fun to use. Nintendo created a revolution with the Wii by focusing on the fun of playing games instead of following the pack with trying to better their graphics or power of their consoles. The Wii is also the highest selling console right now because of this aspect of the console. It can be used by everyone and everyone just wants to have fun playing games which the Wii has achieved.

Journal # 5: Advisory: This Ain't Disney Part 2

Personally I like modern animation much better because it looks so much better and much better to look at. It is actually appealing to look at and it sometimes amazes you. Also, in modern animation, more effects can be done making it look "cool" and make you be so amazed unlike hand animations. In hand animation, the animator is limited to what they can do. They cannot do the things modern animators can. Modern animations can also do a lot more stuff and make a lot of things more effective than hand animation. Modern animation also basically has no boundaries. The animators are free to do anything they want and if they do not have the technique to do what they want they can easily learn it or make it themselves. It is also more effective because of the growing technology we have today. Animators have so much equipment they can use to create the animation they want. Hand animation just does not have a lot of jaw dropping techniques that viewers can look at unlike modern animation. However, some hand animation can be "cool" to look at because of how amazing the animators can draw and how they can make the animation move just by their drawings. Other than that hand animation just cannot compete with modern animation.

This opinion of mine is also influenced by the modern society I live in. I am constantly surrounded with modern technology and not a lot of the old technology. Also, the animations i mostly see are the modern animation since that is what mostly everyone is making now a days. Modern animation also makes it easier to make than hand animation and it also does not demand that much skill unlike hand animation. I guess if hand animation was so much easier it can be competition to modern animation. However, it just cannot compete anymore in my opinion because everyone is always coming up with technology to make things easier and by this it makes modern animation so much easier as well. I think opinions about this topic will just come down to what they see more and what it can do. Since we see more of the modern animation we are more accustomed to it making us like it more than hand animation which we barely see today.

Journal # 4: Blood Tea and Red String

This animation is different from all the horror films I have seen from the past years. Most of the horror films I have seen in those years have some gruesome and have a lot of scenes where things just pop out of no where. This animation was totally different from that, well at least from what I saw. Maybe there was some things popping out of no where but it was not as effective because it was slow due to the animation. I also have not seen any horror films in an animation form. This is actually the very first horror film I have seen made in animation form. I have never heard of horror films being made in animation. I have not even heard of any made from animation. This animation was also not so scary and I cannot find the horror in it. It disrupts what I know horror films look like.

Blood Tea and Red String is so different from all the horror films I have seen and it is not because it was made in animation form. It is so different because I did not find it scary at all. There was no scary element in it at all in my opinion. It just looked like some normal animation but in a dark side. However, this animation was pretty interesting though I did not find it scary at all when it was supposed to be. It was not effective at all. I guess I just did not find it scary because I am so used to watching horror films that are so real, not made out of clay or objects. It was just weird for me to be watching something thats supposed to be scary in animation which I always thought was only for fun and family friendly films. It is different from what I expect of animation.
Journal # 3 : Media Mashup

In our everyday life, we use many things that are can be used for many different tasks therefore categorizing it as a hybrid object. With all of these kinds of products being available to absolutely anyone of any age, the society today becomes so impatient and looking for more and more ways to live a faster way of life. We start to look for ways to make our lives so much easier and most even look for ways to be able to get what they want in a faster and effortless way.

Being able to purchase all of these hybrid products it is hard to resist since it helps to make my life easier and more effortless. These hybrid products helps me to use one thing for many different uses which helps me a lot with my daily life. Throughout my whole day, I use many different hybrid products. It all starts from the time my day begins. My alarm clock helps me wake up but at the same time it can give me music or any news from the radio. As my day goes on, I often receive phone calls from different people as I take my daily route to school. The same phone that my friends or my parents call can also be used to listen to music or many other uses like a calculator, a clock, or txt messaging just to name a few. At the same time, I use my ipod to listen to music while I am on the bus on my way to school which can also be used to store documents and files like school work. During my days, I can use many different items that can be considered as hybrid. Mostly everything I use today can be considered as hybrid since companies are now making many more products that can do more than one thing.

Most of these products that I have the luxury to use are products that I would probably not be able to live without. Many of these items help me do my daily routine and help me have an easier and enjoyable life. It takes a lot of stress of having problems with doing things or the stress of not being able to do anything. However, it is not just the person who makes these items so important. I think society has evolved so much that life would be hard and can be "impossible" to some people to live. These hybrid items have become such a big part of our life that it can be considered as an icon to some people.

Journal #2 : Contemporary Artist

David Rokeby’s “Very Nervous System” is an interactive installation art. By this, it means that the artwork is open to the public to play around with and use and it is installed in a place to change the feel of it. David’s artwork is a piece he made where humans can interact with a computer technology. This computer technology makes music through the person’s movements. The computer produces different sounds according to the person’s movements. These movements are captured using video cameras installed around the person. The music is made using image processors, synthesizers, and a sound system. With this particular artwork, David tries to show people that humans can interact with machines in many different ways. He is also trying to take away the bias on computers. He is trying to show that computers can work out of the tiny space it is provided to work in. By creating this artwork where people can control the computer, he is allowing the computer to work out of its tiny space; making it work in a physical space rather than a circuit space.

David Rokeby's "Very Nervous System" is an example of artists using modern technology of their days to help express their ideas. Through his work in this installation he was able to use certain technology to help him express how he feels. If he was happy he would just move in a happy way like jumping with joy or if he was sad he would move in a slow paced action or walk and his installation would pick this up to make music out of it. His happy movement would create a happy sounding music and his sad movement would create the same expression he has. This installation does not only let him express himself he is able to incorporate people around his installation to express themselves as well. His piece of artwork used a lot of technology available to him to help him express himself and other people as well. David Rokeby thinks outside the box by letting other people to express themselves through his installation. He allows other people to express themselves therefore sharing his expression to the other people first hand.
